Article Excerpt: "...nearly 25 percent, collected disability compensation from Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in 2018. ...When those payments are excluded, veterans’ income averaged $59,000, 9 percent less than nonveterans’ income. The gap between the average income of veterans and nonveterans was largest for men in their mid-60s. ...Characteristics of Vietnam Veterans in 2018: The average Vietnam veteran was more likely than the average nonveteran to have a high school degree, to be White, to be a U.S. citizen, and to report a serious impairment in his ability to function (see Table 1). Such functional disabilities did not necessarily qualify veterans to receive disability compensation from VA."
